Despite strong consumer confidence, sales are expected to decline slightly this year. Total spend is projected to be $68 billion, down 17% from last year’s $75 billion. This drop is largely due to less spending on electronic devices and tepid broad retail sales. A late back-to-school season also means parents have been taking a relaxed approach – nearly one-third will not complete their shopping until after the school year starts.
