What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters. Time goes by fast, so I cherish all the little memory-making moments with my girls!
We’re a military family that moves frequently, so we often have new surroundings to discover and explore. I enjoy experiencing new cultures, meeting people from different backgrounds, and living in interesting new places — US and abroad. As a mil-spouse, life is a journey filled with both challenging and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
First, I’m proud of my educational accomplishment — as I’m a first-generation college graduate. This is important, because it laid the foundation for my professional achievement.
Professionally, I successfully pivoted to a new industry and career, which ultimately brought me to Annalect! I’m so proud to be surrounded by amazing people in an environment that deeply values diversity.
In celebrating Women’s History Month, who or what is your biggest inspiration?
Malala Yousafzai — she survived a near-fatal shooting at age 15, for speaking out against Taliban restrictions on female education in Pakistan. I admire her courage and unwavering advocacy for girls’ right to education. I believe knowledge is power, and key to upward social mobility.
What message do you have for women who may be early in their career and looking to grow into positions of leadership in their schools, workplaces and communities?
Embrace what makes you unique and show up as your authentic self. It’s personally freeing, and inspires others to be themselves, unapologetically. Eventually, it will land you on a path to those who embrace and celebrate you!
